She represents a diverse range of healthcare providers and concentrates her practice on healthcare data privacy and security, with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance in an evolving privacy landscape. Her nuanced understanding of industry regulations and complex transactional issues, combined with her litigation experience, makes her an invaluable resource in providing comprehensive legal counsel and support to clients in the healthcare and life sciences sectors.

With extensive experience in a variety of complex health care laws and regulations, Tara advises clients on matters including professional licensing, FDA regulatory applications, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Insurance Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, the Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records (Title 42 – Part 2), the FTC Health Breach Notification Rule, the FTC’s Government and Impersonation Rule (16 CFR Part 461), and the Opioid Addiction Recovery Fraud Prevention Act (OARFPA).

Before Nelson Hardiman

Prior to joining Leech Tishman Nelson Hardiman, Tara worked for a well-respected regional law firm as part of their real estate practice group and spent more than a decade as a member of the University of California, Los Angeles’ (UCLA) Technology Development Group, where she advised on medical research and development, drafted and negotiated clinical research related agreements with biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and helped to facilitate groundbreaking developments. Her keen understanding of healthcare legal challenges, data protection issues, and intellectual property rights enabled her to foster key partnerships between academia and industry leaders

Before joining UCLA, Tara served as a Deputy City Attorney, handling dozens of criminal trials and advocating for victims, children, and the safety and well-being of the Greater Los Angeles area.

Life Outside the Firm

When not practicing law, Tara keeps her artistic passions alive through mother-daughter crafting projects, attending art festivals, and spoiling her daughter with her shared love for live theater.
