Nelson Hardiman is pleased to announce the elevation of Salvatore Zimmitti to partnership, effective July 1, 2018.

“Sal has proven himself as a true leader within our firm,” said Managing Partner Harry Nelson. “In one high stakes, complex case after another, Sal has demonstrated that he has ‘the right stuff’ to deliver for our clients.” Zimmitti joined Nelson Hardiman in 2014. He began his legal career at the Hooper, Lundy & Bookman healthcare law firm in 2006, following his summer internship there and graduation from UCLA Law School. In addition to his legal training, Sal also has a Masters of Science from University of Connecticut, where he completed his undergraduate studies in biology.

At Nelson Hardiman, Zimmitti has played a leadership role in a variety of business disputes and numerous healthcare False Claims Act and other healthcare fraud cases and investigations in which whistleblowers and the government alleged noncompliance with regulatory requirements by hospitals, post-acute, behavioral health, and other providers. Sal has also shown an ability to wade into particularly sensitive and emotionally-charged cases, such as the legal determination of brain death and preservation of confidentiality in psychotherapeutic communications, which is an issue Sal is currently litigating with Mark Hardiman in a high-profile right of privacy case pending before the California Supreme Court. As a result of his science background and published research in evolutionary biology, Sal has been an active leader in Nelson Hardiman’s Life Science, FDA, and Health Technology Practice Group. In 2015, he obtained a complete dismissal of charges involving the country’s largest national telehealth company in a government enforcement action relating to prescribing standards and is actively involved in other civil, administrative, and criminal cases involving FDA, Medicare, Medicaid, and data security compliance issues.

“Although I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work on such a wide range of interesting matters, it is Nelson Hardiman’s commitment to strong and smart client advocacy, and the unusual solidarity among the firm’s deep legal team, that has propelled me to deliver consistently positive results across a wide range of healthcare litigation and regulatory challenges, ” said Zimmitti.

In addition to his client work, Zimmitti has also played a significant role in Nelson Hardiman’s growth and development. Drawing on his science and technology expertise, Sal has also helped promote the firm’s digital marketing activities and has been active in guiding the firm’s electronic discovery practice. “Our concept of teamwork at Nelson Hardiman isn’t limited to handling legal issues. I enjoy contributing to this firm’s unique culture and seeing Nelson Hardiman’s brand continue to grow,” commented Zimmitti. “Our vision of leadership is different because it does not begin and end with typical billable hour metrics – it extends to thinking of every facet about how we can do things smarter and better for our clients, together.”
