Nelson Hardiman Proud to Sponsor C-Suite Invitational on the National Bundled Payment CollaborativeIn case you missed it, yesterday, Nelson Hardiman sponsored the first “C-Suite Invitational” organized by the National Bundled Payment Collaborative in conjunction with the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Entitled “New Revenue Streams in Value Based Care,” at the California Endowment in downtown Los Angeles. The event focused on the future of our health system, with addresses by UCLA Health System President Johnese Spisso and Dr. Josh Luke, a Senior Consultant with NH Consulting and founder of the NPBC. NH Partner Rob Fuller moderated a panel on health system innovation that included Bill Caswell, COO of Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Chris Van Gorder, CEO of Scripps Health, Rodney Hanners, CEO of Keck USC Medical Center, and Marvin O’Quinn, COO of Dignity Health.

With 2016 representing a major step forward on the shift from “fee for service” to “value-based care,” the program drew executive leadership from the hospital, post-acute, and emerging care transition sectors. NH Managing Partner Harry Nelson, an executive board member of the NBPC, presented the Leadership in Innovation Awards. As part of the event, Nelson Hardiman donated a copy of Dr. Luke’s book, Ex-Acute: A Former Hospital CEO Tells All About What’s Wrong with American Healthcare, to attendees. “Healthcare organizations that haven’t woken up to the paradigm shift are running out of time to do so,” commented Nelson. “Most fee-for-service patients will be absorbed into alternative payment models. Hospital inpatient revenue opportunities are shrinking, and it’s time for a new model that incorporates management of post-acute and ancillary providers.  Providers need to be getting ready for tNelson Hardiman Proud to Sponsor C-Suite Invitational on the National Bundled Payment Collaborativehe challenges of the new environment, and developing their strategies for cost-savings, revenue enhancement, and compliance.”

The program offered extensive ideas on best practices in care coordination and developing new revenue streams, including a presentation on hidden revenue and cost reduction strategies by Dr. Howard Beckman of EagleDream Health, Chief Medical Officer, a presentation from Dr. Eric Coleman on patient centered care, and other thought leadership. For those wishing they had been there, stay tuned for information on the next NBPC event this coming fall!
